Recent Context:
According to the MSME ministry, the ministry has received more than 21 lakh applications under the PM Vishwakarma scheme. Under this, the maximum applications were for tailors (43%). Followed by Masion and carpenter. It is a central sector scheme. It covers the following 18 traditional trade sectors.

- Basket/Mat/Broom

- Washerman

- Fishing Net Maker
The objective of the Scheme:
- To uplift traditional artisans and craftspeople.
- Preservation of India’s rich cultural heritage of traditional crafts.
- Transition to the formal economy and global value chain.
Features:
- Collateral-free credit support of up to 2 lakhs at an interest rate of 5%.
- PM Vishwakarma certificate and an I card for enrolled artisans and craft people.
Stipend and initiatives
- Rs. 500 for skill training.
- Rs. 1500 to purchase modern tools.
- Rs. 15000 as a tool kit incentive.
Timeline
The scheme will be implemented from 2023-24 to 2027-28.
