The Punjab PCS exam is divided into three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. The pattern overlaps with UPSC in some areas but also has its unique aspects.

  1. Prelims: Consists of two papers – General Studies and CSAT. General Studies has 100 questions for 200 marks, and CSAT has 80 questions for 200 marks. Unlike UPSC, CSAT marks are included in the final merit list for Punjab PCS.
  2. Mains: Comprises seven papers – four General Studies papers, Punjabi, English, and an Essay paper. The total marks for Mains are 1350. The Prelims marks are not added to the Mains.
  3. Interview: Carries 150 marks, making the total marks for the final merit list 1500.
